O POETA É O SENHOR DE TODAS AS EXALTAÇÕES HUMANAS

Textos

The women

Another day's journey through the woods,

Under the palm trees and many trees,

The babassu coconut warrior women,

Sitting on the floor, they don't see time pass,

The axe, with its head, is his great companion,

Sharp rips the middle of the coconut and cuts up to the air.

Babassu almonds are their food

In the toil of every day without ceasing,

Singing melodies to improve life,

They are the babassu coconut breakers,

In the struggle for livelihood and so much courage.

They are the women breakers of Maranhão,

Craft of mother and daughters in the great hinterland,

Happy and far from so many good things,

Deceived they turn around,

And fight for one more chance.

Are these women the goddesses of palm trees

And when they cry from hunger and pain,

Smile in just a second,

Falling the sadness of the night,

And tomorrow, they get up without any help.

These are the women of capoeirão,

Beloved in these simple verses,

And that no one lends them,

Much less attention is paid to them,

Or pay them any homage.

These women believe in the good life,

Donate their only sweat shed on their faces,

They are strong and workers of a thousand options,

In everyday life they know how to forgive with emotions,

Always lending a hand to those who didn't ask,

Always offering without expecting to receive.

They are the denies of the coconut of the poverty of my hinterland,

Who lose their youth and reach old age,

Building a path in life without a destination,

Hoping one day the sun will shine in your eyes,

To be respected and honored as women.
