Juliana Marins was born in Rio de Janeiro and lived in Niterói, in the metropolitan region. She graduated in advertising and publicity from UFRJ and worked as a pole dancer, in addition to being a mountain climber and backpacker. And because she wanted to take her career in a new direction, Juliana fulfilled her dreams by carrying her backpack, as she had already hiked in countries such as Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. Sharing with her followers on social media, the varied experiences she had inhabited through photos and videos of landscapes and trails.

Juliana wrote the following to her followers:

-“I left Brazil alone to experience this backpacking trip. I'm living slowly and without many plans. Improvising and letting life happen.”

Rinjani is an active volcano on the island of Lombok, Indonesia, with an altitude of 3,726 meters, being the second highest volcano in the country and a great tourist destination on the mountain trails. It is a stratovolcano that erupted in 2004, remaining dormant until 2009, when its activity increased again, including until June 25, 2025, and it releases a lot of smoke. It is known that its most recent eruption was in 2016. Occurring at the top or summit of the volcano, there is a caldera measuring 6 by 8.5 km, occupied by Lake Segara Anak. This blue crater lake in the caldera has attracted many tourists from the Asian world and its name means “Son of the Sea”. Some people have said that the volcano is a spirit of nature, and tends to eat human beings in its rituals.

On April 21, 2025, Juliana Marins, on the night climb of the trail to the summit of the volcano, after having asked the Guide to rest. She rested for a while, as she was tired. Without a shadow of a doubt, Juliana Marins was desperate not to have her glasses on hand, since the strong wind with over 80 degrees had blown her glasses away. On the other hand, Juliana was nearsighted and could not see. And because she could not see her Guide, and following the trail, she tripped on the side of the trail where there was sand and loose rocks. She fell among the loose rocks or volcanic ash, in a deep place in a steep gorge that looked like quicksand where she found herself 300 meters down.

In spite of having been stuck for days on a difficult-to-access slope before being rescued. The Brazilian Juliana's Guide saw the glow of the flashlight on, as well as heard the calls for help:

-Help! Help! Save me!

The Guide, nervous, said:

-Wait! Don't move! I'm going to get help.

On the morning of June 22, a tourist drone located Juliana Marins. However, the drone did not bring water, oxygen or food, only messages. It was in that hole that Juliana Marins lost her life, suffering from various pains in her body, her body was losing strength. Despite the gas blasts, Juliana did not survive where there was no oxygen, in addition to the hunger that was spreading.

A young man from the city of Makassar, named Agam Rinjani, a mountaineer and guide, gave his life to save the Brazilian Juliana Marins. Born in Makassar, Indonesia, Agam Rinjani heard about the Brazilian's accident and told some rescue friends that he would go and get the Brazilian. He asked his friends to get ropes of approximately 1,500 meters, informing them that that place was very risky. He could not contain himself and took the risks.

Agam Rinjani is an unemployed rescuer, mountaineer and tourist guide, not a fireman or government employee. Reaching into his pocket, he checked and bought a ticket to Lombak Island. When he met his friends, he was informed that the place was very dangerous and difficult for Agam Rinjani to access to lift a body.

-You guys take me down to the place and I'll let you know what the conditions are. It doesn't matter what happens to me. After all, I'm going to save a life. I need to go down and bring her back alive with me.

A rescuer said:

-You're putting our lives at risk.

A young man from the city of Makassar, named Agam Rinjani, is a mountaineer and guide, born in Makassar, Indonesia. Agam Rinjani heard about the Brazilian woman's accident and told some rescuer friends that he would go and get the Brazilian woman. He asked his friends to get ropes of approximately 1,500 meters, informing them that that place was very dangerous.

Agam Rinjani is an unemployed rescuer, mountaineer and tourist guide, not a firefighter or government employee. He reached into his pocket, checked and bought a ticket to Lombak Island. A rescuer said:

- You're putting our lives at risk.

- Lower the rope, I'm going to get the Brazilian girl now.

In addition to Agam Rinjani, he was accompanied by the volunteer rescuers Dwi Januanto and the Syamsul Padhli Guides, who have extensive experience on Lombak Island. Agam Rinjani said that the Brazilian Juliana Marins was very weak and unable to move. The rescue had several complications, such as fog and sub-zero temperatures. When Agam Rinjani got close to the Brazilian, he noticed that she had died.

At night, he quickly arrived at that deserted place, and Agam Rinjani slept next to the body, holding the Brazilian so that she would not go down any further. And so, Agam Rinjani waited for daybreak to prepare the body and take it out of the volcano.

He risked his own life to save the life of Brazilian Juliana Marins. Through the photos and videos, Agam Rinjani could be seen carrying the body of the Brazilian woman through the crater of the Ranjini volcano. With red eyes, Agam Rinjani was reluctant to say that he had come to find her alive and not dead. And that he had done everything he could to keep her alive. But the rescuer's condition was poor, and he burst into tears. Without ever having seen Juliana Marins, he had said that he would save her life.

May God bless your life, great Brazilian mountain climber Juliana Marins.
